Before the brewery opened in February 2018, David Stewart had already worked in business, education and farming. In his first New Hampshire Magazine brewer interview, he described how that background came together here.

His purpose was personal: make beer that connects people to the landscape, history and flavors of this part of New Hampshire. The carpentry, farming and keg washing were part of it, too.

Today, a visit can hold a pint, a meal, a conversation and a concert. That is the spirit behind Blasty Bough.

WHAT’S IN THE NAME?

A small branch.
A good beginning.

A blasty bough is a dry pine branch used to start a fire. The name connects the brewery to the practical warmth of an old New England tradition.

The beer takes its cues from nearby roads, stories and ingredients: rhubarb, maple syrup, spruce tips and plenty of local character.

LOOKING AFTER THE PLACE

Another way
to brew locally.

The farm’s 182 panel solar installation puts energy production right on the property. ReVision Energy documented the project in 2024, including plans for sheep to graze among the panels.

It is a practical part of a larger idea: keep making this place work for the long run.
